Polymer crystallinity can be determined with DSC by quantifying the heat associated with melting (fusion) of the polymer. This heat is reported as % crystallinity by ratioing against the heat of fusion for a 100% crystalline sample of the same material, or more commonly by ratioing against a polymer of known crystallinity to obtain relative values. Crystallinity implies that a mineral has a definite and limited range of composition, and that the composition is expressible as a chemical formula. Some definitions of minerals give them as inorganic materials, however both diamonds and graphite are considered minerals, and both are primarily comprised of carbon, which would make them organic.
